The United State National Aeronautics and Space Administration(NASA), suffered a security incident that saw hackers make off with sensitive data relating to the agency’s Mars missions. The breach went undetected for nearly a year.
The hacker used a tiny Raspberry Pi computer, a credit-card-sized device sold for about £34 ($35) to infiltrate NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory network.
- The attack targeted computer systems at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Lab in Pasadena
- It went undetected for nearly a year and an investigation is still underway
- The unknown attacker was able to steal sensitive data from the space agency up to 23 files amounting to approximately 500 megabytes of data
- It also forced the temporary disconnection of space-flight systems at NASA.
