The U.S government’s security advisory team recently informed that a US-based natural gas compression facility has been attacked by ransomware. There are no specific details describing when this attack occurred, but the summary of the event and guidance to prevent such occurrences from reoccurring is provided.
The report, which was published by the Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (DHS CISA) stated that the attack occurred through a spear phishing means. The hacker gained access to the IT network first, before moving to the organization’s operational network.
